As part of Farsley Literature Festival, we present a special panel with some of the best writers of contemporary Gothic fiction: Andrew Michael Hurley, Kirsty Logan and Lauren Owen.

Andrew Michael Hurley - Andrew's first novel, "The Loney", was originally published by Tartarus Press as a 300-copy limited-edition, before being republished by John Murray. It went on to sell in twenty languages, win the Costa Best First Novel Award and Book of the Year at the British Book Industry Awards. "Devil's Day", his second novel, was picked as a Book of the Year in five newspapers and won the Encore Award. "Starve Acre" was published by John Murray in 2019, with a film adaptation starring Morfydd Clark and Matt Smith in production.

Kirsty Logan Kirsty Logan’s latest book is "Now She is Witch" (Harvill Secker, 2023), a queer medieval witch revenge quest. Forthcoming is "The Unfamiliar" (Virago, 2023), a memoir of queer pregnancy and parenthood. She is also the author of two previous novels, three story collections, two chapbooks, a 10-hour audio play for Audible, and several collaborative projects with musicians and visual artists. Her books have won the Lambda, Polari, Saboteur, Scott and Gavin Wallace awards. Her work has been optioned for TV, adapted for stage, recorded for radio and podcasts, exhibited in galleries and distributed from a vintage Wurlitzer cigarette machine.

Lauren Owen Lauren is an author based in Yorkshire. Her first novel, "The Quick" was published in 2014. Her second novel, "Small Angels", is out now. She studied at St Hilda’s College Oxford. She holds an MA in Victorian Literature from Leeds University, and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia, where she was awarded the Curtis Brown Prize. In 2017 she completed a PhD in English Literature with a thesis on vampires and the gothic of writing.

The event is hosted by gothic writer and theatre performer Adam Z Robinson of The Book of Darkness & Light. For the past eight years, Adam has travelled the country with his ghost story theatre shows, including SHIVERS, UPON THE STAIR and HAUNTED, performing to thousands of appreciative audience members. He is the host of The Ghost Story Book Club podcast and a regular contributor to the Evolution of Horror podcast.
