Monthly live music and good food session MELTING POT continues with THE NORTHERN JBs - a homage to James Brown and other legends of funk related to the Godfather of Soul, including Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Parliament / Funkadelic.
Led by top session trumpeter Ciaran Distan, the Northern JBs feature top Leeds jazz/soul/funk musicians such as Fergus Quill on bass (The Fergus Quill Trio, Nico Widdowson Quintet) and Connall Mulvena on guitar (New Position, KONL & Ko), and take pride in faithfully recreating the original sound of the James Brown band. A time when funk was still gritty, greasy and smoking hot!
Legendary Leeds jazz/soul/funk/world music DJ/promotion crew The DIG Family pretty much ran things up north from 1985 to 2002. Their 1990s club nights (Yardbird Suite/The Cooker/Casa Latina) at the Underground Club were EPIC. Almost 20 years after the crew split, original members Gip Dammone and Lubi Jovanovic reunite to present a monthly session, playing records on original vinyl between the live sets.
