One man’s fantastical and hilarious quest to unravel the occult secrets of a unique family ‘hairloom’.

After inheriting a 100-year old moustache, David Bramwell (Cult of Water / Sing Along A Wicker Man) embarks on a ten-year odyssey to discover all he can about its former owner, a Victorian freakshow host called Ambrose Oddfellow. His quest draws him into the underbelly of Brighton – its séances, spiritual churches and a seedy basement club – where he unwittingly becomes the host of a modern-day freakshow. Coming to believe that his ‘hairloom’ is possessed, Bramwell joins a cult, dabbles with Amazonian psychedelics and comes close to losing the plot entirely.

How is the world’s smallest theatre and a mysterious Salvador Dali model, Drako Zarhazar, connected with his heirloom? Can Bramwell solve the mystery before his sanity gives in? This award-winning monologue is a supernatural coming-of-age story, an exploration into magic and the nature of reality, and an affectionate portrayal of England’s rich counterculture. It’s quite funny, too.

Sony Silver Award ‘Best Feature’ for BBC Radio 3 dramatisation.

Best Comedy Award – Brighton Fringe.

Outstanding Theatre Award – Fringe Review.

The Undertones emerged from Derry, Northern Ireland in 1976, the result of five friends learning how to play basic rock and roll. Even by the standards of that decade, Derry was not the rock and roll capital of anywhere and with no live bands worth watching, they learned their trade by listening to mail order records, reading one of the few copies of NME that made it to Derry but most of all from listening to John Peel’s show on BBC Radio One. Practicing in their bedrooms eventually led to the band recording ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978 on Terri Hooley’s Good Vibrations label in Belfast. A copy was sent to the legendary DJ John Peel and he liked the track so much he played it twice in a row on his radio show!

Live The Undertones present a glorious set of classic tracks taken from what are considered by many fans and critics to be some of the best punk albums of all time, adding to them a whole bucketful of their iconic guitar pop hits & anthems, Get Over You, Jimmy Jimmy, My Perfect Cousin, You’ve Got My Number, Julie Ocean, Wednesday Week, and, of course, Teenage Kicks.

Devoted to recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig, Transmission emulate the sound of one of the most inventive, evocative and influential groups of their era.

Joy Division were formed in the late 1970s and dissolved in 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The remaining members went on to form New Order and have achieved much critical and commercial success. The influence of Joy Division, however, was far reaching. They were considered the pioneering band of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Forty three years on you can relive the dark, cavernous sound of Joy Division through Transmission - the UK's number one Joy Division tribute act.

Two spine-chillers by M R James, the master of the English Ghost Story, performed in candlelight by Farsley favourite Robert Lloyd Parry of Nunkie Theatre, who appeared as the author in Mark Gatiss’s BBC2 Documentary ‘M R James: Ghost Writer.’

In "Casting the Runes" we meet the unforgettable ‘Abbot of Lufford, ’ Mr. Karswell – magic lanternist, historian of the occult, and scourge of the academic establishment. The story is perhaps best known for being the source for the classic 1950s horror film ‘Night of the Demon.’

It is partnered here by one of James’s most neglected masterpieces: "The Residence at Whitminster", in which a dark shadow is cast over the precinct of a peaceful English church…

Montague Rhodes James [1862 – 1936] wrote his ghost stories to perform to friends in the years leading up to WW1. Today they have lost nothing of their power to terrify and amuse. Nunkie Theatre Company returns with two more of James’s very best, in another thrilling one-man show.

NOMINATED FOR BEST SOLO PERFORMANCE AT OFF-WEST END AWARDS 2023.

A mighty spirit is about to reawaken. Yours.

Derek Jarman: film-maker, painter, gardener at Prospect Cottage, gay rights activist, writer… His influence remains as strong as it was on the day AIDS killed him in 1994. But his story, one of the most extraordinary lives ever lived, has never been told. Until now.

This vibrant solo play from Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope, Howerd’s End) brings Derek back into being on World AIDS Day for a passionate, daring reminder of the courage it takes to truly live while you’re alive. A journey from Dungeness to deepest, brightest Soho and into the heart of one of our most iconoclastic artists.

Jarman’s works include taboo-breaking films like Sebastiane, Jubilee and Caravaggio, pop videos for the Pet Shop Boys (It’s A Sin and Rent), his extraordinary borderless garden in Dungeness, his shocking last paintings, and his unforgettable final film Blue, consisting of a single continuous frame of blue and chronicling what it’s like to lose your sight… But never your artistic vision.
